Seven days is enough to see the best of Rwanda by car. This self-drive itinerary loops from Kigali through the gorillas, Lake Kivu and Nyungwe Forest, then back. Rent a 4x4 and follow along.
Day 1: Kigali
Collect your car at the airport, settle in and visit the Genocide Memorial and city sights.
Days 2 to 3: Volcanoes National Park
Drive to Musanze for gorilla or golden monkey trekking. A 4x4 is ideal for the trailhead tracks, see car rental to Volcanoes.
Day 4: Lake Kivu
Head to Rubavu or Karongi for a relaxed lakeside day. Follow our Lake Kivu road trip.
Days 5 to 6: Nyungwe Forest

Day 7: Return to Kigali
Drive back via Huye, with time for coffee and souvenirs before drop-off.
