Where the RAV4 is the right call
Two travellers doing Kigali, Lake Kivu and a gorilla trek in the dry season will be entirely happy in a RAV4, and will save several hundred dollars over two weeks against a Land Cruiser.
Where it is not the right call: a full Akagera game drive programme on bush tracks, a trip in the heaviest rains of April, four adults plus luggage, or camping with a rooftop tent. For those, step up to the Prado or the Land Cruiser.
